HEIC to JPG
Turn iPhone photos into JPG.
Drop HEIC photos and get JPG files that open on any computer, website or printer. The conversion runs on your device, so the photos never leave it.
Reads HEIC in Safari, and in Chrome or Edge wherever the computer can play HEVC video.

Several files of one kind convert together.
How it works
Three steps, no settings to learn.
1
Drop the HEIC photos
From a folder, the desktop or an exported photo library. Several at once is fine; they convert one after another.
2
Keep JPG selected
JPG is already chosen at Great quality, 82 percent, a good balance for photos you will share or upload. Custom has the rest.
3
Save
One JPG per photo, or a single ZIP for a batch. The names stay the same with .jpg, and the HEIC originals are not touched.
Measured examples
What came out of our test photos.
Two generated 12-megapixel pictures, saved as HEIC by macOS, went through this page at its own setting in Chrome and in WebKit.
| Test file | Size | Change | Time | Result |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Detailed photo, 12 MPChrome | 1.3 MB → 1.5 MB | 17 percent larger | 1.8 s | 33.3 dB likeness · 4000 × 3000 · Location removed |
| Detailed photo, 12 MPWebKit | 1.3 MB → 1.6 MB | 24 percent larger | 2.8 s | 31.9 dB likeness · 4000 × 3000 · Location removed |
| Smooth gradients, 12 MPChrome | 74 kB → 97 kB | 32 percent larger | 1.2 s | 48.9 dB likeness · 4000 × 3000 · Location removed |
| Smooth gradients, 12 MPWebKit | 74 kB → 83 kB | 13 percent larger | 1.8 s | 48.5 dB likeness · 4000 × 3000 · Location removed |
Measured on November 7, 2026 in Google Chrome 157, WebKit (Playwright build, not Safari) 26, on Apple M1 Pro. Times run from pressing Convert to the result being ready, with the page already loaded. Likeness is PSNR against the original: higher is closer, and above 40 dB the difference is hard to see. WebKit here is Playwright's build, which is not Safari. Every test file was generated for these measurements, none is anyone else's work, and each is described on the About page.
The busy photo grew from 1.3 MB to 1.5 MB as a JPG, because HEIC packs more picture into each byte. It took 1.8 seconds in Chrome and 2.8 in WebKit. The likeness figure compares each result with macOS's own decoding of the same HEIC: 48.9 dB on the smooth picture, 33.3 dB on the grainy one, where a JPG at this setting softens the finest grain.
Facts
What the JPG keeps and what it drops.
Location and camera tags
Removed. The test photos carried make, model, capture date and GPS position; none of the five tags is in the JPG.
Orientation
Applied to the pixels, so the picture is upright in every viewer and nothing depends on a rotation flag.
Colour
Converted to sRGB, the standard for JPG. A Display P3 photo loses only the shades sRGB cannot hold.
One still picture
A JPG holds a single image. The motion of a Live Photo and the depth map of a portrait photo have no place in it.
Good to know
What happens to a HEIC photo.
The facts that decide whether this is the right conversion, and what you get out of it.
What HEIC is
HEIC is the file an iPhone or iPad writes by default: a HEIF picture compressed with HEVC, the codec used for video. At comparable quality it is usually smaller than a JPG, which is why Apple moved to it in iOS 11.
The catch is everything outside Apple's own apps. Many websites, upload forms, older Windows programs and print services still accept only JPG or PNG.
Which browsers can read it
Safari on a Mac, iPhone or iPad opens HEIC itself. Chrome and Edge cannot, but they can borrow the computer's HEVC video decoder: Flex Convert reads the HEIC container and hands the pictures to that decoder. We tested it in Chrome on a Mac. On Windows it depends on HEVC support being present, as a hardware decoder or Microsoft's HEVC Video Extensions.
Where the browser has no HEVC decoder, which is typical for Firefox and some Linux setups, HEIC photos cannot be read. Flex Convert says so instead of producing an empty file. We did not test Firefox.
How the JPG is made
A photo shot upright comes out upright. Colour is converted to sRGB, the standard for JPG, so a Display P3 photo keeps its look and loses only the most saturated shades sRGB cannot hold.
The encoder is about 20 percent smaller than Chrome's built-in JPG encoder at the same measured quality, and a 12-megapixel photo takes about 1.8 seconds in Chrome.
When to leave it as HEIC
HEIC to JPG is a second lossy step on a picture that was already compressed once. If you edit in Photos, Lightroom or Pixelmator, keep the HEIC and export JPGs only for the places that need them. People on iPhones can open HEIC anyway.
To get JPG straight from the camera, open Settings, Camera, Formats and choose Most Compatible. That affects new photos only.
If something goes wrong
When it does not work.
Both of these are about the computer, not the photo.
Couldn't open this HEIC photo
Why: Chrome and Edge have no HEIC reader of their own. This page hands the picture to the computer's HEVC video decoder, and some computers have none.
What to do: Open the page in Safari, or in Chrome or Edge on a Mac. On Windows, Microsoft's HEVC Video Extensions add the decoder.
The JPG is bigger than the HEIC
Why: HEIC is the more efficient format: our grainy test photo came out 17 percent larger as a JPG.
What to do: Choose For the web instead of the original size, or keep the HEIC and convert only the copies you have to share.
